There seems to be quite a lot a controversy surrounding Microsoft’s Christmas “gifts” of Acer Ferrari laptops loaded with Vista. Some bloggers are over the moon about getting one of these sweet machines, others received a 2nd email telling them that they are only “review” machines, and that they must please pass them on or return them once they have reviewed it.
Darren Rowse had some interesting initial reactions.
By the looks of things most bloggers receiving the laptop look like Mac users. Also, I’m interested to see what type of PR would this generate for Microsoft, being that most bloggers don’t really favour Microsoft (even though it is the most widely used OS in the world).
At the end of the day, what does one have to do to get one of these beauties? It’s no hidden fact that I am a huge Ferrari fan, and no matter what anyone says, these laptops are by far one of the fastest machines out there.
There is also another angle to this all saga in that when you do review the laptop, you must disclose that you received one, as well as if you do decide to keep it, that you must also disclose that.
I spotted a comment by Aaron Coldiron, who handled the distribution of these laptops. He says that you are free to keep the laptop, but they advise that you give it away on your blog. So there you have it, from the horse’s mouth.
