It seems that the only thing on the news with regards to MXit is negative publicity. This time around it is teachers and parents worrying about the upcoming exams. Instead of complaining about the problem, why not embrace the technology, and find ways of getting MXit, studying, exams and schools to work together?
Schools and teachers could setup a way of communicating important information to students, as well as offering after-hours help for exams and tests. Have a teacher get setup on MXit, and have certain times of the day when the teacher will be online for questions. It could get kids to start chatting about their subject material on MXit, and not the latest flirt at school.
This might not be a solution to MXit at school, but it definitely is an idea in the right direction. Banning MXit completely is not going to solve the problem. Drugs are illegal, but does that stop kids from using it? Only guidance on the reasons why not to use drugs as well as counseling stops kids from using drugs. So why not do the same with MXit?
Some of the teachers and parents quotes:
Their schoolwork is suffering. They are not concentrating, they just sit there in a world of their own.
There is communication breakdown and the children are not concentrating on their studies.
My 18-year-old son didn’t sleep anymore. I was very worried, as it caused friction between him and my husband. We as parents don’t understand what MXit is.
Once again, knowledge is power, and if you are not going to find out what MXit is, and how it works, its like not knowing what drugs are, and how to prevent them from using that. Become informed, and then inform your kids on how to use MXit more responsibly.
