SNO has arrived

Neotel, the 2nd fixed line network operator officially launched yesterday. It has taken almost 3 years since Telkom’s monopoly was supposed to end, (according to ICASA) to actually have a face to our Second Network Operator.

Welcome Neotel!

Listening to Neotel’s CEO last night on the news, it doesn’t sound like they will come into the market considerably cheaper than Telkom, but whatever they do bring to the table, will bring competition, and competition will eventually bring costs down, and I’m hoping, decent broadband connectivity!

I’m hoping that when they do start selling their services to the public, that they will be able to handle it. When Virgin Money launched, after 2 weeks they had stopped all forms of advertising, because they couldn’t handle the load of new credit card applications. (I was one of them! :-) )

So just a friendly reminder to Neotel, please remember, people are sick and tired of Telkom, and when you do give us the opportunity to switch, expect thousands of people to jump ship. Be ready, because having 2 network operators with bad service is almost as bad as having 1.

[...] Update: Seems that Kalula and 1Time are also going to be playing ball during Mango airlines launch. Kalula flights during November will range from R168 to R248, and 1Time, between R165 and R549 for January. I’m hoping this exact same thing will happen when Neotel officially launches to the public!
