There are a couple of free DSTV channels that you can get on your decoder, if you know how to set them up. I’ve found one of them, the Hope Channel.
The Hope Channel aims to communicate hope, joy and a positive attitude to life. To be realistic and practical and to inform and educate.

- Thought-stimulating programs on religious freedom, human rights and major disasters
How to setup this free DSTV channel
Make sure your DSTV has the latest software installed. To check this, press the menu button, and if the first line reads “Information Central”, you should have the latest software installed. If not, press Menu, go to Advanced Options and press OK. Then go to DSD Upgrade and press OK. It could take around 8 minutes to upgrade.
Here are the steps to get it setup.
- Press the Menu Button
- Go to Advanced options, press OK.
- Go down to Dish Installation, press OK.
- Key in the password – 9949, press OK.
- Use right arrow to select “Other” menu, press OK.
- Check that Satellite Name is PAS 7/10.
- Move to FREQUENCY on line 6 and press OK. Enter 12722, press OK again.
- Check that the Symbol Rate is 26652
- Move down to FEC and use right arrow to change to 1/2, press OK.
- Check that the Polarisation is “Vertical”
- Move down to “Use NIT” and change it to NO, press OK.
- Move down to Accept displayed values, and press OK.
- Dish Installation menu should display.
- Move down to “Scan all networks”, and wait until it has completed.
- Press the “TV” button, and move down to “Public PAS 7/10″ and press OK.
- Press P+ or P- until you find “Hope”

I got the hope channel settings from the net but it will not show n my decoder, my decoder z a 1110. The problem z t displays IS7/10 instead of PAS7/10. So I’m using IS7/10 with all given settings but to no avail.help
Hie ,i coul not see Hope channel until i changed the 10700 on Network 1 pas7 10 to 10600 and rescan ,all the other free channels pop up ,Network 2 should be ‘other’ and the frequency, symbol rate and FEC as on the website.

Why does the words”dstv check your smart card …..’ everytime appears whilst watching aprogram. This is disturbing as the YV went blant when this notice appear and then you mis some action on your show or film?

The pin nr 9949 does not work on my decoder. I am trying to link up again with kruiskyk channel on Pas 7 satellite.It is the pin I always use but now it only shows a flag “wrong pin” on my decoder. Somebody said I must disconnect the dish, wait a while, and then let it scan again.But I forgot how to do it.Please can somebody help me?Frans van Wyk. 0798879898
My problem with the pin 9949 not working is solved. You must put off your decoder and disconnect your antenna cable. Let it stand like that for 5 min. and. Put it on and let it scan without antenna. After a while connect the antenna cable again end scan.tha problem should be solved. Your decoder must say”reboot decoder’ then you are on the right track. 9949 will then work again.
