If you are going to travel overseas, and plan on keeping in touch with friends and family back in South Africa using your cellphone, you are going to need to activate International Roaming. Vodacom offers 2 types of roaming. Full international roaming, and SMS roaming.
Full international roaming lets you make and recieve calls and SMS’s as well as GPRS data. SMS roamer only allows you to send and receive SMS’s.
How to activate full international roaming with your Vodacom phone
Dial 111 (customer care) using your vodacom cellphone. Select option 4, and then option 2. You will be put through to a consultant who will guide you through the process.
Bear in mind that this is the more costly of the two options when travelling, as every incoming call you are paying for half of the call – the part from the border of South Africa to your destination.
How to activate SMS roaming with your Vodacom phone
From your vodacom cellphone send the word ROAMON to 123 while you are still in South Africa. It takes around 24 hours to activate.
To deactive the service once back after your overseas trip, sms the word ROAMOFF to 123 and the service will be deactived.
I’m off overseas for a couple of days, so I had to find out how to get international roaming setup.

helooo im currently in the netherlands and want to activate my roaming…my mother went to a vodashop and they told her if im prepaid i already have roaming..wich is not true because i just inserted my vodacom sim in my phone and i have no service..obviously..so is there a way of turning on my roaming while im in the netherlands?
