Telkom’s ADSL bandwith cap

It seems that your ADSL 3gb cap from Telkom might actually be bigger than you think. For the first time I actually read our ADSL daily usage update email from Telkom and came across this at the bottom of the email:

Service threshold: 3.00GB

Please bear in mind that this is a usage-based service and as such is subject to a threshold.

TelkomInternet have opted to offer you an average usage option that will keep you online until such time that the average usage for all subscribers reaches the service threshold.

This means that we are allowing unrestricted access beyond your threshold instead of simply curtailing the service. However, your service may be discontinued once the average usage for all subscribers has been reached.
You will then be required to top-up your threshold to remain online.

Which in english means that they are offering you unrestriced bandwidth past your 3gb cap until the average usage of all ADSL users goes above 3gb. You won’t get less than 3gb, but you probably will always get more…

Ive heard of people actually reaching 9gb a month on their account, with no speed loss. Thank Telkom and those users that don’t use all the ADSL bandwidth available to them. =)
