DSTV are planning to add 3 more high definition channels to is offering as well as a more affordable HD PVR. Currently Multichoice offers only 1 HD channel – M-Net HD, but have now said they will be adding another 3 channels for free before March 2010.
Marilyn Watson, MultiChoice’s External Communications Manager said that the three HD channels will include sport, documentary and film. Watson highlighted that at this stage customers will not be charged for the additional channels.
Along with the 3 free new HD channels, they are also planning on launching a cheaper version of their HD PVR. The orginal Pace HD PVR was introduced at a price of R2499, but has increased drastically in price.
Watson said that the exact date and the actual retail price is still to be confirmed, but it is speculated that the device will cost in the region of R 2 000.
