For people with a mobile phone in South Africa, it just got more powerful. Standard Bank has created a mobile web based application that will locate the nearest branch and ATM using the location of your phone. Visit standardbank.mobi
Currently this service only works with the Vodacom network. The service should eventually reach 90% of cell phone users in May.
The user can either request a map of the nearest branch or ATM, or have the address sms’ed to their phone for even more convenience.
With the wake of their redesign (which is really pathetic), Standard Bank do seem to be heading in the right direction with regards to innovation and social media. All we can hope is for more big corporates following suite.
