Vodacom have offically launced the fastest connection to the internet in South Africa. 3G HSPDA.
Currently the fastest ADSL connection available in South Africa tops out at 1024kb/s. Vodacom’s new 3G offering comes in at a whopping 1.8mb/s! Ok, everyone overseas is laughing, but in South Africa its a big deal!
So for everyone on the Vodacom network using 3G, theres no upgrade or anything needed. Vodacom’s 3G connection has been upgraded, and your current Vodafone Mobile Connect Card will be able to handle HSPDA. So no need to worry. Update: Mark points out that you will need to trade in your current 3G card for a 3G HSPDA card.
Price
Internet connectivity is pretty expensive and 3G is no exception, but for its mobility, I guess the cost is justified.
Vodacom’s packages seem to cater for everyone, and the best value for money package is their 3G-One package. 1 gig of Data per month for R599, which includes a free Vodafone Mobile Connect Data Card.
Visit Vodacom’s 3G site for more info. A 3G coverage map is also available.
HSPDA stands for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access and more info on it can be found at the Wikipedia HSPDA page.
Apparently, you need to trade in your old 3G Card for a new HSPDA card.
My bad, Mark. Thanks for pointing that out. Article updated.
Does the new 3G card work with the adapter for a desktop computer?I keep getting mixedc messages
Hi S.D.Ndemera, I think the best for you would be to take in your desktop adaptor into an Incredible Connection store that sells 3G packages (most of them do), and ask them to test if it works. They will gladly help you out.
I want to get a Vodacom Data connect card but MTN’s card allows you to make and recieve calls from ti
Sorry…I meant IT NOT TI
Eh… It’s HSDPA instead of HSPDA.
