Google Earth has a built in flight simulator!

Grab the latest version of Google Earth, and press Ctrl+Alt+A or Ctrl+WindowsKey+A and watch in amazement as you will be able to select either a F16 fighter jet or a SR22 four seater plane to takeoff from a few predetermined airports around the world. Pity Cape Town International isn’t listed. Anyway, you can take off from your current spot, which is what I did. ;-) I took a quick tour around Cape Town and this is what I saw.

Google Earth Cape Town
Above shot coming into Cape Town. You can see the Waterfront coming up in the middle, Robben Island off to the right, and Devils Peak on the left.

Google Earth Table Mountain
This shot is of our glorious Table Mountain.

Before attempting to fly, read the quick help and controls guide. You are going to need to know what keys control the throttle, flaps and the plane. ;-)

Found this on Techcrunch via Marco – a UCT grad!
