There are a number of these multiple desktop managers out there with Linux having the functionality built straight in, but how about creating your multiple desktops as a 3D cube?!
Yod’m (really bad name) is an awesome application that takes the simple task of managing multiple desktops and gives you a 3D cube in which to show your 4 desktops!

I’ve been playing around with it on Vista and it works brilliantly! You can also add a touch of transparency to the cube which will give you the ability to see all 4 of your desktops on the cube at once.
For Linux there is a similar product called Beryl.
